Firstly, it is an oil painting, painted during the brief and rare excursion into this medium made by Arthur Rackham. Secondly, the subject of the picture is of his older sister Meg ( Margaret ) , painted during a long Summer in 1889 when Arthur was just 22 years of age. Thirdly the painting has remained in the Rackham family until today, it being passed on to Arthur Rackham's brother Stanley when he left the family home and made a life for himself overseas. Godet, Julius - OIL PAINTING ON CANVAS, ORIGINAL FRAME - 'ON THE LLUGUY- NORTH WALES' - 1880, 30" x 20". This wonderful oil on canvas was painted by Julius Godet ca1880 and depicts a scene in North Wales on the River Lluguy. It is in good condition, untouched by the restorers hand, lightly crazed in on or two places, measures 30" x 20" canvas size, with a later frame, title panel incorrectly spelled as 'Godel'. The painting is signed on the left hand corner of the canvas and has written on the reverse of the canvas the title; 'On the Lluguy - North Wales’. Godet is a listed English artist whose work is very much sought after. The title of that painting was 'The Lledr Valley - North Wales' and same size and genre, obviously from a collection that he painted in the area at the time.
